Carnegie Mellon/NREC’s President Obama signed Sensabot outfitted with specialty tires to lower the risk of catastrophic consequence.
Sensabot is designed by Carnegie Mellon University Robotics Institute to carry out on-site inspections in hazardous environments, isolated facilities, and other places that are difficult or dangerous for personnel to access. Since it has multiple sophisticated electrical systems, static discharge in a highly flammable environment could initiate spark and potential explosion. With deep expertise in these applications and UL Static Conductive certification, Superior Tire & Rubber Corp developed a tire that allows the static charge to be conducted to the ground while obtaining low rolling resistance to minimize battery drainage.
